Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at Wayne State University (WSU) in Detroit seeks to hire a Pathway to Faculty Fellow who is committed to inclusion and equity in outcomes in philosophy. AOS: Research that includes a focus on philosophical traditions, perspectives, or identities historically underrepresented in the field. AOC: Open. During the first year of the Pre-Faculty position, the teaching load will be 0-0. After the first year, the position will provide opportunities to teach advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in areas related to the candidate’s AOS and research interests. Subject to attainment of expected milestones, the Fellow will transition to the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor at Wayne State University with a regular teaching load of 2-2. This position is one of several under the Wayne State University Pathway to Faculty Program which is grounded in Restorative Inclusive Excellence, a organizational management approach which seeks to mitigate harm through restorative justice practices, promote equity-mindedness focused on outcomes and the use of inclusive excellence to disrupt structural and institution barriers to success. Components of the program include structured mentoring, resources for the establishment of an independent research program, and the support of a community committed to and experienced in the eradication of injustices in higher education. The Pathway to Faculty Program offers up to three years of pre-faculty support (research funds, infrastructure, mentorship, and teaching experience) to facilitate the development of a sustainable research program (https://gradschool.wayne.edu/faculty/pathway). The fellow would receive the career mentorship from a WSU faculty member who is dedicated to the expansion of the field of philosophy to include historically marginalized voices. Additional mentoring, personal and professional development guidance will also be provided by a brain trust or team of mentors. Wayne State University provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics. The university encourages applications from women, people of color and other underrepresented people. Wayne State is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants must submit the following materials to the online hiring system: (1) CV, (2) cover letter, (3) writing sample, (4) contact information for three references, (5) evidence of teaching effectiveness, and (6) a statement describing what equity-mindedness and inclusive excellence means to the applicant as a scholar and educator (1-2 pages). In addition, applicants must arrange to have their letters of recommendation emailed to [email protected]. Applicants should have completed their PhD by the time of appointment. |
