VIRGINIA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY (VWU) invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Philosophy, beginning in Fall 2024. A minimum of a Ph.D. in Philosophy with emphasis in Ethics, Applied Ethics and evidence of teaching success is required. We believe that the study of philosophy is an integral part of a liberal arts education. We seek a candidate with a strong core commitment to undergraduate teaching and student advising, as well as a passion for service, research, and general scholarship consistent with our student-focused department and University. The successful candidate will support the Philosophy major/minor and also the University’s General Education program. Candidates who can demonstrate experience and enthusiasm for teaching Ethics and Health Care, and Environmental Ethics are highly desirable. The teaching load is three four-credit courses per semester. The position requires teaching Ethics and Applied Ethics courses. The position will also support core history of philosophy courses, such as Ancient Philosophy or Modern Philosophy as well as upper-level philosophy electives.
