Job Description

The Department of Humanities at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi seeks an Assistant Professional Professor of Philosophy beginning Fall 2024. This is a full-time, nine-month position with competitive salary and benefits. Professional faculty positions are non-tenure-track but may be renewable and promotable. The teaching load is five courses per academic semester. We seek a colleague who can offer instruction in core courses including Introduction to Ethics, Introduction to Logic, and Introduction to Philosophy, as well as in upper division courses including one or more of Moral Philosophy, Medical Ethics, Philosophy of Law, Social and Political Philosophy, or Environmental Ethics serving students in philosophy and other disciplines. Some service at different levels (program, department, college, university, and community) is also expected. We encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching and/or service that they can contribute to the mission of our university. The Philosophy program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offers both a major and a minor in philosophy.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy with a concentration in Ethics in hand by August 2024, although ABDs may be considered at the time of offer.

  • Experience teaching one or more of: Introduction to Ethics, Applied Ethics courses, Introduction to Logic, and Introduction to Philosophy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.

  • Demonstrated potential for program development.

  • Demonstrated potential to contribute to the mission of the university.

A completed application file will include:

  • A letter of interest addressing qualifications listed above.

  • A curriculum vitae.

  • A statement of teaching philosophy.

  • Sample syllabi for an Introduction to Ethics course and either an Introduction to Logic or an Introduction to Philosophy course. Other syllabi deemed relevant may be submitted.

  • Three professional references including name, address, title, telephone number, and email addresses (letters of recommendation may be requested after initial review).
