Job description

Position Overview

The Department of Philosophy at the University of the South seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy. AOS: Open; AOC: Business Ethics. This is a full-time, one-year appointment (effective July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). The teaching load for this position is six courses per year. 

Attributes of a Successful Candidate

Teaching responsibilities will be focused primarily on introductory-level philosophy courses, especially Business Ethics, but will also include the opportunity to offer at least one upper-level class in the area of the candidate’s expertise.

We particularly welcome faculty with knowledge, skills, or diverse life experiences contributing to an inclusive and welcoming environment in our department and the institution.

A Ph.D. in philosophy is preferred, but we will consider candidates who are ABD in philosophy.

    • (i) statement of teaching philosophy, 
    • (ii) sample syllabi (including one introductory level and one upper-level class), 
    • (iii) student course evaluations (if available).
