Job description |
The College of Integrative Studies (CIS) and School of Social Science* at Singapore Management University** invites applications for one Assistant Professor (Education track) in the Humanities, to commence in either July 2024 or January 2025. The position requires a doctorate in a relevant discipline and demonstrable teaching experience by the date of appointment. We particularly seek candidates with a strong teaching ethic, an inclination toward classroom innovation, and a clear commitment to teaching excellence. Education Track positions start on three-year contracts in the first instance, with the possibility of performance-based renewal. The teaching load is six (6) classes per academic year for Assistant Professor (Education) positions, as well as academic advising for students embarking on the College's Individualised Major (Bachelors of Integrative Studies). The selected candidates would each be expected to deliver the majority of their teaching for the undergraduate course, Big Questions. Big Questions is a mandatory Freshmen course embedded into the Civilisations pillar of the Core Curriculum, aimed at introducing students to the challenging ethical, theoretical, and operational debates that attend to the biennially rotating themes of Happiness and Suffering and of Wealth and Poverty. The course is multidisciplinary, each Faculty member encouraged to speak to the themes from their own disciplinary perspective. Applicants may also be invited to suggest elective(s) from their own field that they could teach at CIS under the Core Curriculum, or for the College's undergraduate or graduate programmes. Applications can be made online. Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, two samples of written work, published in English, as well as evidence of teaching effectiveness (such as student evaluations). Candidates should also arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be sent directly to: The Dean, College of Integrative Studies, Singapore Management University, 10 Canning Rise, Singapore, 179873 or e-mailed to [email protected]. Incomplete applications may not be reviewed. Full evaluation of applications will start on 20 March 2024 with interviews held from late March to April 2024. Overseas candidates will be offered a Zoom interview in the first instance. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified. *The CIS administers the University's Core Curriculum as well as a suite of programmes including an Individualised Major at the undergraduate level, as well as interdisciplinary Master’s and Ph.D. programmes in “Asian Urbanisms” and an MST in Sustainability.
