Assistant Professor (EXPIRED)

VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (Philosophy):  The United States Military Academy, Department of English and Philosophy, seeks applicants with a Ph.D. in philosophy for a terminal three-year appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor beginning in July 2024.  Candidates will be evaluated according to the following factors:  (i) advanced degree (Ph.D.) in philosophy; (ii) ability to teach undergraduate cadets the core-curriculum introductory philosophy course, which has a strong emphasis on ethics and the morality of warfare and (iii) ability to teach elective courses within our philosophy major including courses in the history of Western philosophy including ancient and early modern philosophy, and/or non-Western philosophy.  Additional duties include cadet counseling and support of cadet extracurricular activities.  Applicants need not have any military experience but must have a genuine concern for the development of competent, committed military officers.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The United States Military Academy, an Equal Opportunity Employer, especially welcomes applications from those in underrepresented groups.  To receive full consideration, applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a dissertation abstract, academic transcripts, at least three confidential letters of reference, statement of teaching philosophy, and form DD214 (if claiming veteran’s preference) to the Department of English and Philosophy, ATTN:  Amy Sudol, U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY 10996-1791.  FAX (845) 938-2562; e-mail [email protected] .
