Title: University Lecturer in Engineering Ethics Department: Humanities & Social Sciences Reports To: Department Chair Position Type: Faculty Position Summary: The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the New Jersey Institute of Technology invites applications for a University Lecturer in engineering ethics. The department's courses in engineering ethics are designed to ensure the success of all undergraduate students at a top-tier polytechnic academic institution. Essential Functions: Under the supervision of the Department Chair and the faculty coordinator of engineering ethics, the University Lecturer will contribute to the department's commitment to providing students with a dynamic and innovative educational experience. Specific teaching requirements will entail four face-to-face sections of engineering ethics per semester and associated advising support. Potential opportunities may also exist to teach upper-division courses in an area of personal specialization. This is a ten-month non-tenure track position. Prerequisite Qualifications: The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary community of researchers and educators that encourages state-of-the art pedagogy consistent with the aims of a technology-intensive university and applicants should evince how they will participate in the pursuit of a mission of continuous educational innovation. Candidates must abide by the university's core values, which include excellence, integrity, civility, social responsibility, diversity, and communication. Candidates should be able to demonstrate prior experience teaching engineering ethics or related courses at the university level and documented success through course evaluations, peer assessment, or other means. The Department is also prepared to consider applicants with other forms of relevant professional preparation. Candidates are expected to have appreciation for the distinct instructional requirements of a public polytechnic university that encompasses the full range of engineering disciplines, as well as computer and data science, applied science, business management, and architecture and design. Candidates should have a Master's degree in philosophy, applied ethics, science and technology studies, engineering management, safety science, or closely related field. PhD preferred. Key criteria for selection will include experience teaching at the university level and evidence of success working with a diverse student population.
