Job description |
The Center for the Future Mind at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites applications for a two year post-doctoral fellowship beginning August 2024. The ideal candidate should focus on one or more issues involving philosophy of AI, mind, metaphysics of the self, computation, technology ethics, consciousness studies, and/or the future of humanity. They would have a PhD research specialization in one or more of the following areas: AI epistemology, philosophy of AI, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, AI ethics, and/or the ethics of emerging technologies. The selected candidate would contribute to a growing area of expertise on the future of mind and AI at FAU, anchored by Professor Susan Schneider who leads the Center for the Future Mind (https://www.fau.edu/future-mind/). The postdoc would work with Schneider as well as FAU Professors Garrett Mindt (Philosophy), Nich Biama (Philosophy), Elan Barenholz (Psychology), Chad Forbes (psychology), and many others. We are located in sunny Boca Raton Florida, in the heart of campus at the Gruber Sandbox, a large space that houses our Center and AI Lab, the MPCR Lab. The fellow would assist with grants and Center activities and teach one course a semester in the Philosophy Department, likely courses such as AI ethics or introduction to philosophy. (We welcome other courses as well.) They can join the philosophy department’s activities, draw from the extensive resources on AI and the brain throughout FAU’s campuses, such as the Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems (ISense), Max Plank, Scripps, the Center for Complex Systems and Brain Sciences, and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. PhD required by July, 2024. If interested, please send CV and research statement to both [email protected] and [email protected]. |
