VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (Philosophy): The United States Military Academy, Department of English and Philosophy, seeks applicants with a Ph.D. in philosophy for a full-time term appointment in the expected service not to exceed 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave. Candidates will be evaluated according to the following factors: 1) Academic Accomplishment (PhD is preferred) in Philosophy; 2) Demonstrated ability to engage in research and positively contribute to the scholarship of Just War Theory, The Morality of War and Peace, or related ethical topics; 3) Ability to contribute to the breadth and depth of philosophical knowledge among faculty in the Philosophy Program; 4) Ability to teach variety of elective courses within Philosophy and demonstrated potential to develop master's level faculty. 5) Ability to positively influence, mentor, assist cadets in their development as future Army Officers Applicants need not have any military experience but must have a genuine concern for the development of competent, committed military officers. Duties: Teach an undergraduate philosophy course in the core program of the Department of English and Philosophy at the United States Military Academy with a strong emphasis on ethics and the morality of warfare. Instruct elective courses within our Philosophy major. You will support the personal growth and professional development of cadets in and out of the classroom as a role model for future leaders of the Nation. You will provide cadet counseling and support cadet extracurricular activities. Engage and positively contribute to the scholarship of Just War Theory, the morality of war and peace, or related ethical topics. |
