The philosophy department at Ashoka University values both historically sensitive and analytic approaches, offering a variety of courses in all the major areas of philosophy. The department offers both a major and a minor and takes part in three interdisciplinary programs: (1) Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, (2) Philosophy and Computer Science, and (3) Psychology and Philosophy. In addition to running the Philosophy Society, the philosophy students also run PhilCon, India’s first undergraduate philosophy conference and have recently started Citta, an undergraduate philosophy journal. Despite Ashoka’s very short history, many of Ashoka philosophy graduates have gone on to exciting careers in industry and NGOs and to continue their academic studies at a variety of prestigious programs including USC, Oxford, Pitt HPS, Tufts, Amherst, Simon Fraser University. Details about the current permanent and visiting philosophy faculty can be found athttps://www.ashoka.edu.in/roles/faculty/?yearby=38 .

The university currently offers 12 pure and 9 interdisciplinary majors as well as 17 minor programs. It is also home to a number of interdisciplinary educational and research centers (see https://www.ashoka.edu.in/centres/centres/). Ashoka’s diverse student body is actively engaged with their community and boasts a large number of student organizations as well as regular campus events (see https://www.ashoka.edu.in/clubs-and-societies/) .

Ashoka is located in Sonepat, India, about 40 km (25 mi) North of New Delhi, India’s vibrant capital city. Although Ashoka has both on-campus and near-campus faculty residence facilities, it is also accessible from Delhi via a regular shuttle that runs between campus and the Jahangir Puri metro station. The campus is currently home to over 2500 students from 30 states and Union Territories in India as well as 27 other countries. The student to faculty ratio is currently 11:1. In September, 2021, the foundation was laid for a campus expansion that will double the university’s current area.
