Hiring Range: $49,000 - $52,000 per year + benefits package Closing Date: Review of application materials will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Work Schedule: Full-time Instructor/Visiting Assistant Professor position available September 1, 2024. 9-month position; academic schedule is September to May. Classes begin on September 3. New Faculty Orientation will take place on August 21 and 22. General Description: PLU’s Philosophy Department seeks applications to teach the following courses: two sections of The Examined Life (an introductory course in philosophy), two sections of Ethics and the Good Life (an introductory course in ethics), and two sections of Existentialism and the Meaning of Life (an introductory course in existentialism). Our school is committed to fostering a diverse academic community consisting of many first-generation students, non-traditional students, and students of color. We are looking for a candidate who will see these students’ backgrounds as assets and who will employ pedagogical methods that will support their success. In addition, our department is committed to scholarly pluralism, which means that the above courses should have a strong basis in the history of philosophy, but may be approached from a variety of philosophical traditions.
