We are innovating university! Interdisciplinary, international, and digital – these are pillars of the University of Technology Nuremberg. We interlink engineering, humanities, and sciences. The University focuses on interdisciplinary studies, digital learning, and cutting-edge research. We will enroll up to 6,000 students on a campus that combines research, learning, and living. The project is one of the most important higher education projects of the Free State of Bavaria, Germany.

The University of Technology Nuremberg is looking to fill, at the earliest possible date, a position as a

Professor (m/f/d) (W3) of the History of Philosophy with Special Focus on Early Modern Philosophy

at the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Your tasks:

You represent the subject history of philosophy with a focus on Early Modern Philosophy in research and teaching and you have a focus in Epistemology. The University of Technology Nuremberg seeks to apply the knowledge and know-how of humanities disciplines in shaping the transformation towards a sustainable society. This requires not only the invention of new technologies but also the development of education, science and societal communication. Humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences will therefore collaborate at the Department of Liberal Art and Sciences in innovative interdisciplinary ways, also with the engineering sciences that make up the Department of Engineering. You will especially contribute to establishing the research area of the department, “Human and Artificial Intelligence”.

Your profile:

Excellent research achievements in the field of Early Modern Philosophy, especially with focus on epistemology of the Early Modern Period, demonstrated by relevant publications and conference contributions, are expected. The application of philological research methods is welcomed.

In your application and in the selection process, you should demonstrate the relevance of your work for interdisciplinary dialog with other disciplines and your willingness to participate in the Department's research area “Human and Artificial Intelligence”.

Teaching experience, ideally in interdisciplinary contexts, is desired. We expect your participation in all teaching activities at the Department, including study course planning and engagement in the development of innovative digital teaching and learning concepts, as well as cooperation within and across departments.

The legal hiring criteria according to Article 57 Paragraph 1 BayHIG apply. Therefore, a university degree is a prerequisite, as well as a particular aptitude for research, usually demonstrated through a doctorate or equivalent scientific qualification. Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate additional scientific achievements beyond their doctorate or doctorate-equivalent qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude.
