The UCF Department of Philosophy is seeking a 9-month, non-tenure earning, visiting instructor or lecturer of Philosophy and Humanities and Cultural Studies. This appointment may be renewed for up to 4 years based on available funding. The position is expected to begin on August 8, 2024. Position responsibilities include a 4/4 teaching load or its equivalent and ordinary expectation of service assignments. A willingness and ability to engage in online teaching training offered by UCF, if appropriate, is required. The direct reporting supervisory relationship is to Dr. Nancy Stanlick, Chair of the Department of Philosophy.

The Department of Philosophy houses three B.A. programs – Philosophy, Humanities and Cultural Studies, and Religion and Cultural Studies. It also has two graduate certificate programs; one in theoretical and applied ethics and the other in cognitive sciences. In addition, the department contributes to the new undergraduate certificate program in AI and Big Data Ethics. The Department includes undergraduate certificate programs in cognitive sciences and interfaith dialogue.

The College of Arts and Humanities is composed of five departments and two schools. Interdisciplinary collaboration occurs and is encouraged in the Department of Philosophy, in the College of Arts and Humanities, and with other colleges at UCF.

 Minimum Qualifications:

A master’s degree (for instructor) or terminal degree (for lecturer) in philosophy or a humanities discipline with emphasis on cultural studies from an accredited institution.

 Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to teach in philosophy and in humanities and cultural studies, primarily at the GEP level; at least one year teaching experience or its equivalent at the college/university level in philosophy and/or humanities; and ability to teach upper-level undergraduate courses in or related to the candidate’s area(s) of specialization. Experience teaching online is beneficial.

 Additional Application Materials Required:

UCF requires all applications and supporting documents to be submitted online through the Human Resources website, www.ucf.edu/jobs. In addition to the online application, candidates should upload/submit:
1. Cover letter
2. Current curriculum vitae
3. Copies of all academic transcripts
4. Teaching statement (no more than 2 pages)
5. Names, institutional affiliations, phone numbers, and email addresses of three professional references

NOTE: Please have all documents ready when applying so that they can be simultaneously uploaded. Once the online submission process is finalized, the system does not allow applicants to submit additional documents later. Only complete applications will be considered.

The selected candidate will be required to submit official transcripts (and, as applicable, U.S. degree equivalency evaluations) documenting the conferral of their qualifying academic credentials.
