Job description

The Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Tübingen is seeking a

Professor (W 3) of Philosophical Principles of Theology

to begin in October 2025.

The holder of this professorship will be responsible for research in and the teaching of the fundamental philosophical questions required for the study of theology. Applicants should have a qualification in philosophy and represent the breadth of the subject in research and teaching with sufficient proximity to theology.

Areas of concentration should demonstrate an interdisciplinary ability to connect with current debates and social challenges. An area of specialization in modern philosophy, contemporary philosophy, or medieval philosophy is desirable, as is the applicant’s willingness to contribute to the research of the Tübingen Center for Augustinian Studies.

The professor will be expected to teach both the history of philosophy and philosophical systematics.

Candidates are required to have a habilitation or comparable academic achievements in philosophy, a theological qualification or a thematic proximity to theology, and a proven teaching record.
