ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PHILOSOPHY PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT About the Position: The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 2014. About the Department and University: The Philosophy Department is very professionally active, it hosts the Bellingham Summer Philosophy Conference each August, and it has been recognized in the Philosophical Gourmet Report as one of the best half-dozen, undergraduate-only programs in Philosophy in the nation. The Philosophy Department strives to further Western’s identity as an institution that welcomes and embraces diversity, and encourages applications from diverse candidates. WWU is a primarily undergraduate institution with an enrollment of about 15,000 students in seven colleges and the graduate school. The University is in Bellingham, Washington, a city of about 80,000 located between Vancouver, British Columbia and Seattle, WA and overlooking Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands. Position Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of courses that are standard components of undergraduate programs offered by analytically oriented departments (3 courses per quarter). Moreover, the successful candidate should be willing to teach upper-division courses in one or more of the following areas by September 2015: Aesthetics, Social and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Science. Further responsibilities include participation in the weekly faculty seminar on recent philosophical literature and the usual administrative committee and service assignments. Required Qualifications
