Job description

The Department of Public Policy in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a Teaching Assistant or Associate Professor with a start date of January 1, 2025. The position carries our regular teaching load for teaching track faculty of six courses per academic year (three courses per semester). All courses are taught in person on campus. The appointment is for a three-year (renewable) term. The successful candidate must be prepared to teach core classes in our undergraduate major, including some combination of courses in the politics of public policy, public policy analysis, and normative dimensions of public policy (e.g., Justice in Public Policy). The faculty member may also have the opportunity to teach an elective in a policy-relevant area of their expertise, and teach in our graduate programs. The department aims to provide a fair distribution of courses for each faculty member, balancing the needs of the department and the interests of the instructor. Teaching faculty in our department are also expected to participate in the activities of the department, including serving on committees and advising students. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Public Policy, Political Science, Philosophy, or a related social science discipline by the time of appointment. Evidence of teaching experience and skills are necessary for consideration.
