The Department of Philosophy at Trent University Durham-GTA invites applications for a limited term appointment (LTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment commences January 1st, 2025 and ends August 15th, 2026. Please note that this position is subject to budgetary approval. Candidates are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in Philosophy. While the area is open, preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience and/or an active research program in the areas of history of philosophy and/or ethics. All applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will teach three half-credit courses in each of the fall and winter semesters during the contract, as well as one half-credit course in the summer. In addition to a fourth-year course in either the fall or winter semester of academic year 2025-26, the successful candidate will teach a selection of the following courses in accordance with their teaching and research experience: PHIL 1100H: Introduction to Philosophy: Moral and Political PHIL 2010H: Love and Desire PHIL 2110H: Moral Issues PHIL 2150H: Philosophy of Law PHIL 2030H: Death PHIL 2420H: Ancient Philosophy I PHIL 2430H: Ancient Philosophy II PHIL 3020H: Philosophy of Emotion PHIL 3420H: Early Modern I PHIL 3430H: Early Modern II PHIL 3370H: Cyberethics Trent University is the top-ranked primarily undergraduate university in Ontario, Canada with a record of excellence in both teaching and research.
