Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Saint Anselm College, a Roman Catholic undergraduate liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition in Manchester, NH invites applications for a three-year Assistant Professor position to begin August 2025. Area of Specialization (AOS) is Open; Area of Competence (AOC) is one or more of the following: Applied Ethics, Metaphysics and Epistemology, and Modern Philosophy. The teaching load for this position is three courses per semester.

The successful candidate will have a sympathy for and understanding of the Catholic philosophical tradition and will teach courses throughout the curriculum that fulfill the two philosophy core learning outcomes: theoretical and ethical reasoning.

Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching ability (including sample syllabi and a statement of teaching philosophy), evidence of research potential (samples of scholarship, articles, or conference papers), and academic transcripts to the attention of Dr. Kyle Hubbard, Search Committee Chair, via the college website. Three letters of recommendation are required and should be submitted in PDF format via email to the Office of the Academic Dean ([email protected]).  Applications should be received by December 6, 2024 for full consideration.

Required Skills and Experience:  A Ph.D. in Philosophy is preferred, although advanced ABD’s will be considered. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level as well as scholarly research.

Founded in 1889, Saint Anselm College is an undergraduate, liberal arts college housed on a 350+ acre, residential campus, with a student body of approximately 2,100 students, 155 full-time faculty in addition to the monks of Saint Anselm Abbey. The college is located in the vibrant and diverse city of Manchester, NH, where 76 languages are spoken in the schools. The college is less than an hour from sandy beaches, the White Mountain National Forest, the Lakes Region, and metropolitan Boston.
