Job description

The University of Macau is a leading higher educational institution in Macao and is making strides towards becoming internationally recognized for its excellence in teaching, research and service to the community. The University is growing rapidly with a number of new strategic initiatives including the relocation to a new campus and the establishment of the largest Residential College system in Asia. The new campus will be 20 times larger than the present one with a projected fast growth of student intake and faculty size. English is the University’s working language.

The Philosophy and Religious Studies Programme of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Full Professor of Religious Studies in Hindu religion and/or the religions of Islam.

The Philosophy and Religious Studies Programme is a newly established and growing scholarly community with a strong international profile comprising intercultural approaches to both philosophy and religious studies. In addition to an undergraduate Minor programme in Philosophy and Religious Studies, the programme actively participates in the University-wide General Education programme and offers PhD supervision across the range of the department’s expertise. In religious studies the programme has particular strengths in Eastern religions, including Buddhism, Confucianism and Daoism, and in Christian religions, including religion and literature, as well as strengths in Western critical theory and analytical philosophic traditions. The programme seeks to appoint a specialist in Hindu religion and/or the religions of Islam.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD in Religious Studies or in related areas. Applicants should have an excellent record of tertiary teaching and supervision experience and a distinguished record of research and publication at an international level.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2014.

Position and Remuneration

Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
