Lecturer of Social, Political, and/or Legal Philosophy (Non-Tenure Track) Department PHILOSOPHY Position Number F0856A Job Description The Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies at Old Dominion University invites applicants for a Lecturer of Social, Political, and/or Legal Philosophy to begin in Fall 2025. This is a 10 month annual, non-tenure track appointment with a preferred AOC in Applied Ethics. We seek candidates who can inspire our diverse student body to minor, major, or double major in Philosophy. The Lecturer will teach primarily general education Philosophy courses like Introduction to Philosophy) and will also have opportunities to teach courses in their areas of specialization as needed to complement the department’s existing areas of curricular strength. Some example specialized courses would be Social & Political Philosophy and Philosophy of Law. The teaching course load will be 4/4. ODU has a strong and active commitment to diversity. Preferred Qualifications • A Ph.D. in Philosophy or in a related field (e.g. JD-Ph.D) with 18 graduate-level credit hours in Philosophy. • AOC in Applied Ethics, such as Bioethics or Business Ethics.
