Overview:

Since 1991 the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS) has been one of the top academic centers for cognitive science in the world. The Center’s membership includes faculty from philosophy, psychology, computer science, linguistics, neuroscience, psychiatry, behavioral economics, and engineering. RuCCS faculty seek to understand perception, language, decision making, and other aspects of cognition, along with how to apply that understanding to solve real-world problems. RuCCS aims to support the development of cognitive science as a field and places great importance on the training of the next generations of scholars. Participants in the RuCCS Postdoctoral Teacher-Scholar Program are a part of this academic community, engaging in mentored scholarship while teaching undergraduate courses.

Posting Summary:

• To accommodate the diversity of training and career paths, the scholarship expectations for RuCCS Teacher-Scholars are flexible and can include a broad range ofscholarly approaches, including laboratory research.
• Teacher-Scholars follow a progression of mentored academic development that gradually increases in independence and responsibility.
• Every Teacher-Scholar has a primary faculty mentor and participates in a program of professional development training led by Rutgers faculty and staff.
• Each Teacher-Scholar is provided with shared office space and a research allowance to support travel to academic conferences and other expenses.
• Teacher-Scholars are required to contribute to the RuCCS community by participating in seminars, conferences, and other academic programming.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Scholars must be no more than 4 years removed from the award of the PhD in a cognitive science-related field at the time of hiring. We understand that circumstances can arise that may impact your professional development. Applicants who have experienced interruptions in their research or research training, or who have had periods of less than full-time research, may request extensions to this timeline. Following guidelines established by the NIH (https://grants.nih.gov/policy-and-compliance/policy-topics/early-stage-investigators/extensions), we will review requests on a case-by-case basis. RuCCS Teacher-Scholars will work at RutgersUniversity in New Brunswick, NJ. Exceptional teaching is expected, but not all cognitivescience trainees have the opportunity to accumulate much teaching experience during their graduate training.
