Job description

The London AI and Humanity Project (LAIHP) is pleased to invite applications for a Visiting Fellowship at the Institute of Philosophy, School of Advanced Study, University of London.

The fellowship period will commence on May 19th and conclude on June 27th.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be academics or researchers engaged in the Philosophy of AI or closely related fields. We hope to select a mix of senior and junior applicants.

About the Fellowship:

  • Dedicated Workspace: Fellows will be given a desk at the Institute of Philosophy in central London, located across the street from the British Museum and easily accessible via public transportation.

  • Intellectual Exchange: Fellows will be invited to present their work to members of the LAIHP and the broader London AI community.

  • Events:

    • Conference on Responsible AI (May 19-20th). Talks include:

      • Iason Gabriel (Google Deepmind)

      • Julia Haas (Google Deepmind)

      • Nora NiLoideain (University of London)

      • Rachel Sterken (University of Hong Kong) and James Kirkpatrick (Oxford)

      • Laura Weidinger (Google Deepmind)

      • Kate Vredenberg (London School of Economics)

    • Philosophy and AI mixer: To include fellows, conference speakers and attendees, as well as researchers from  local academic institutions, tech companies, and policy organizations.

    • Google Day: Fellows will participate in a joint lunch/symposium with researchers at Google and Google Deepmind

    • Turing Tables: Every Tuesday and Thursday there will be a lunch-time talk from either a fellow or a member of the local AI community.

Funding:

While we are unable to fully cover the expense of travel and accommodation for all visiting fellows, we are pleased to offer a limited number of bursaries to help defray these costs. In addition, the University has places for 3 fellows in a shared apartment based on need and fit with space specifications.

Extending Your Visit:

We encourage fellows to apply to the LAIHP AI Summer School in Paris, which will immediately follow the fellowship period from June 30th to July 4th. Further details about the summer school will be released in February 2025.
