Job description |
Description New College of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track position in Philosophy to begin Fall 2025. We seek candidates with a broad background in applied ethics (e.g., technology, business, bioethics) and demonstrated competence in Environmental Ethics. Additional areas of competence are open, but a background in Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Science, Metaphysics, and/or Philosophy of Language would be welcome. New College has active graduate and undergraduate programs in Environmental Studies, Animal Wellbeing and Conservation, Data Science, and Marine Mammals, and this position would likely contribute to our instructional offerings in one or more of those interdisciplinary programs. The teaching load is two courses per semester plus sponsoring individual and group tutorials. In addition to classes and tutorials, faculty members provide academic advising, supervise independent study projects, sponsor senior undergraduate theses/projects, and serve on baccalaureate committees. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a program of research or creative work. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to innovative undergraduate liberal arts teaching and an aptitude for interdisciplinary collaboration and dialogue. About New College New College is driven by a mission to be the best liberal arts college in America. New College, the nationally recognized honors college of the State University System of Florida, is an innovative liberal arts institution where students learn how to think, not what to think. Founded in 1960, the College has garnered national acclaim for its rigorous academics as students chart their own academic course with the assistance of faculty advisors and written assessments are given instead of letter grades. Conducting research is an important part of the undergraduate curriculum at New College with each student having to complete a senior thesis to graduate. The New College campus sits on the scenic Sarasota Bay and directly adjacent to one of the fastest-growing airports in the nation. The region consistently ranks among the best for quality of life, featuring world-famous beaches, historic architecture, and iconic fine & performing arts institutions.
