Job description

The Department of Philosophy and Religion at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applicants for an Assistant Professor in Philosophy position with a specialization in Ethics to begin August 2025.

This nine-month tenure-track position carries a teaching load of three courses per semester while maintaining an active research agenda in ethics. The position also includes the opportunity for additional summer school teaching. The selected candidate will be actively engaged in departmental meetings, committees, and special-project work to further goals of the department.   PhD in Philosophy with a specialization in Ethics. Note: Applicants who are ABD will be considered; however, doctoral degree must be conferred by August 1, 2025 to be eligible for employment.   Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Area of concentration in Political Philosophy
  • Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate level
  • Evidence of actual or potential excellence in teaching some area(s) of applied ethics
  • Established record of publication or strong potential for publication
