Job description |
Wofford College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor in Philosophy, a one-year position. The position is designed to allow philosophers to gain valuable teaching experience at a selective liberal arts college. In turn, visiting philosophers enhance the Wofford curriculum and the philosophy department with fresh perspectives and unique expertise. A strategic goal of the college is to increase and support diversity throughout the college community. The search committee strongly encourages applications from all those whose presence or identity is underrepresented in the profession. EXPECTATIONS: The visiting assistant professor or instructor will teach four courses per term (typically two preps): three introductory-level courses capped at 20 or 24 and one upper-level seminar capped at 15. Visitors have no committee duties. They are full-time employees of the college and receive salary and employment benefits. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. As a visitor within the Wofford philosophy department, the successful applicant will have use of an office and a personal computer provided by the college. The position begins in Fall 2025 and runs for two 14-week semesters (Fall and Spring), with a six- to seven-week break between the fall and spring semesters. The visiting professor/instructor will have no obligations to the college or the department during the four-week January term. AOS: Open. Preference for one or more of the following: Decolonial Philosophy, Indigenous Philosophy, Latin American Philosophy, Non-Western Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, or Queer Theory. AOC: open. APPLICATION: Application materials should be emailed, in pdf format, to [email protected]. Application materials include (1) a cover letter, (2) cv, and (3) teaching portfolio (including statement of pedagogical approach or teaching philosophy). Three letters of recommendation should be emailed separately. Please have recommenders include the candidate’s last name in the subject heading of the email. Review of applications will begin March 31, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. To ensure full consideration, submit application by March 31, 2025. For further information, contact Dr. Christine Sorrell Dinkins at [email protected].
