Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy, Heidelberg University, is seeking to fill the following full-time position (100%) at the earliest possible date (no later than October 1, 2025): Assistant Professor (Akademische*r Rat/Rätin, A13, Fixed-Term) The position is initially limited to three years, with the possibility of extension for an additional three years. It is a qualification position aimed at completing the habilitation—a postdoctoral qualification required for full professorship in Germany and some other European countries. Responsibilities: − Research and teaching in the field of systematic theoretical philosophy. Preferred areas include epistemology, philosophy of science, and philosophy of language; intersections with other areas, such as aesthetics or metaphysics are welcome. − Teaching load: 4 hours per week per semester, increasing to 6 hours per week uponreaching the qualification goal. The primary language of instruction is German, though occasional courses in English are possible. − Contribution to the administrative tasks of the Chair of Theoretical Philosophy, including the planning and organization of academic conferences and participation in the development of joint research projects. − Involvement in administrative and organizational duties within the department. Requirements: − A PhD in philosophy. − A compelling research profile with a demonstrable focus in theoretical philosophy. − Teaching experience (preferred). − International academic experience (preferred). − High degree of independence, excellent teamwork abilities, and a focused, goal-oriented work ethic.
