Job description |
Applications are invited for a two-year Research Fellowship in Applied Moral Philosophy. The full-time post is part of a Wellcome Trust-funded project ‘Neurointerventions in Crime Prevention: An Ethical Analysis’. The successful applicant will conduct philosophical research on autonomy, coercion, manipulation, bodily integrity or penal theory and apply this work to the questions in criminal justice policy and neuroethics addressed by the project. The postholder will work under the supervision of the project’s Principal Investigator, Dr Thomas Douglas. The post is located at the Oxford Uehiro Centre in central Oxford and the start date is 1 October 2014. This post is at grade 7 on the University scale, and a salary is offered in the range of £29,837 - £36,661 per anum. Applicants should have a research specialisation in one or more of the following areas: moral, political or legal philosophy; bio- or neuro-ethics; criminal justice ethics. The ability to work both collaboratively and independently, and to produce papers for publication without the supervision of others is also required. The postholder will have obtained prior to the start date, a PhD (or equivalent doctorate) in philosophy or a closely relevant discipline, or will have submitted (and preferably had examined) a thesis for such a degree. Appointment to the position will be conditional on prior submission of the doctoral thesis.
