Job description |
Please note the deadline for this vacancy is noon on Monday 5th May (UK, BST). The College proposes to appoint a 12-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy for the 2014-2015 academic year to support the College’s teaching needs whilst Professor Paseau, one of the College’s two Tutorial Fellows in Philosophy, is on sabbatical leave. The contract will run from 1st September 2014 to 31st August 2015. If the College is unable to appoint a suitable candidate it may decide to appoint to two separate 6-hour lecturerships. The lecturer will be required to give twelve hours per week of tutorials during the eight weeks of each of three full terms. With Dr Sinclair, the College’s other Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy, the lecturer will be expected to share responsibility for those students reading Philosophy and for their teaching arrangements in Philosophy, including setting and marking collections (college termly examinations) and authorizing reports, oversight of their studies, and pastoral care. S/he would also be expected to play a major role in the undergraduate admissions process. The successful candidate will have a doctorate, or will have submitted by 1st October 2014, and must have proven teaching experience in the subject range to be covered. The stipend will be on a scale from £25,013 per annum, subject to revision in line with national adjustments to University teachers' salaries, and the position is superannuable under USS. The lecturer will be a member of the College’s Senior Common Room, will have use of a room for teaching, and will be entitled to eleven meals a week, when the kitchens are open, free of charge. A small allowance (currently £325 per annum) will be given to enable the lecturer to entertain undergraduates as part of regular pastoral contact. The lecturer will also be entitled to apply to research funds of up to £500 per annum. For further particulars and to make an application, please see the College website http://www.wadham.ox.ac.uk/about-wadham/jobs. Please note that applicants should ask two referees to write or e-mail direct to the College’s Academic Administrator by the same date.
