Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA. Assistant Professor. Tenure-track. Beginning September 2014. Course load: seven courses over three quarters with one course reduction for research. Salary competitive. Includes normal benefits and a housing assistance program. AOS: Philosophy of Mind (with emphasis on Philosophy of the Emotions, Moral Psychology, and Philosophy of Mental Illness), Metaethics, Ethics. AOC: Applied Ethics (especially Bioethics), Early Modern Philosophy, Philosophy of Language. Must have experience teaching lower division courses in ethics and applied ethics. Must be able to teach a two-quarter Cultures & Ideas sequence. This sequence can focus either on the history of philosophy or on a theme suitable for introducing philosophy to first year students, and must include a significant non-western component. Must be able to teach writing intensive Critical Thinking courses. Experience coaching an Ethics Bowl Team desirable. Commitment to the highest quality undergraduate teaching is essential. Complete dossier must by submitted online by April 28, 2014, including CV, cover letter, graduate transcripts when appropriate, three letters of recommendation, student evaluations of your teaching, an example of representative scholarship, and a personal statement covering teaching philosophy and experience working with people of diverse cultures and identities.
