                                                   University of New Mexico
 Position Summary:

The Department of Philosophy seeks applicants for a full-time Visiting Lecturer III appointment at the University of New Mexico (UNM), effective August 2014. This is a one-year position that may be renewable for up to three years contingent upon satisfactory performance and budgetary approval.  The successful candidate must have earned a PhD in Philosophy by the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will teach three or four courses per semester (in accordance with UNM workload policies) during the 2014-2015 academic year, including multiple sections of Phil 356: Symbolic Logic.   The successful candidate will also teach additional upper-division courses required for our undergraduate major; such courses will likely include Phil 352: Theory of Knowledge and Phil 358: Ethical Theory.   If needed, the successful candidate may also be assigned to teach lower-division courses such as Phil 101: Introduction to Philosophy, Phil 202: Descartes to Kant, and Phil 211: Greek Philosophy.

 Minimum Qualifications:

 - PhD in Philosophy by the time of appointment

- Ability to teach Symbolic Logic, as demonstrated either by experience teaching Symbolic Logic or by successful completion of coursework in or beyond first-order predicate logic

 - Two years of experience teaching university/college-level Philosophy courses                       

Preferred Qualifications:

 - Experience and effectiveness teaching Symbolic Logic

 - Ability to teach Theory of Knowledge and Ethical Theory

 - Record of teaching excellence in Philosophy courses taught in a university or college setting

 - Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues
