Job description

TRUMAN STATE UNIVERSITY, Kirksville, MO. Temporary Assistant Professor of Philosophy & Religion, one-year appointment with the possibility to be renewed for one year, beginning August 2014. AOS: some area within value theory and at least an AOC in ethics (AOS in ethics preferred).  Candidates must be prepared to teach a range of courses in ethics. The department also has an interest in offering courses in aesthetics, nineteenth-century philosophy, philosophy of law, or political philosophy. Candidates should clearly indicate in which of these areas they are prepared to offer courses and what their qualifications are for doing so, including number of times teaching or assisting in such courses and amount of graduate coursework relevant to such courses. The Philosophy & Religion Department is committed to pluralism of viewpoints and approaches among scholars.

Complete applications must include:  a letter of application that addresses the required and preferred qualifications, current curriculum vita, statement of teaching philosophy and commitment to the liberal arts and sciences and to student development, all undergraduate and graduate transcripts (photocopies are acceptable at time of application), writing sample, a sample syllabus for an entry level Ethics course, one or two sample syllabi for relevant upper-level courses, and three letters of recommendation.
