Provide instruction in Philosophy in accordance with established course outlines. 2. Teach any onsite, hybrid, or distance learning course offered by the Philosophy department. 3. Provide leadership in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; participate in and develop programs to measure student learning outcomes. 4. Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas. 5. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics. 6. Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to, the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; submit student grades according to established deadlines; post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in departmental meetings and college and/or district governance. 7. Assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and online sections. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d): a. Possess the California Community College Teaching Credential for this subject area. b. Possess a Master's in philosophy. c. Possess a Bachelor's in philosophy and Master's in humanities or religious studies. d. Or, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. e. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials. 2. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Desirable Qualifications: 1. Possession of a PhD in Philosophy. 2. A minimum of two years of recent and successful experience teaching various Philosophy courses, including Ethics and/or Logic & Critical Thinking. 3. Demonstrated current preparation in the discipline. 4. Experience with developing and teaching web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses. 5. Strong commitment to quality teaching, student success, and academic excellence. 6. Familiarity with instructional technologies that address multiple learning styles. 7. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with students, staff, and faculty. 8. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 9. Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to serve the campus in other capacities beyond the usual classroom load. 10. Commitment to a student-learning-centered college. 11. Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in philosophy and its instructional program. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contract (tenure track), full-time, two-semester, 175 day position. Position availability subject to funding. Location: Coastline Community College Start Date: Fall Semester – August 2014 Assignment may include evening and weekend classes. FACULTY PAY: For a full-time, two-semester position a maximum starting range of $46,037 to $78,400 is offered, based on the 2013-2014 salary schedule of $46,037 to $109,761. In addition, an annual stipend of $2,781 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
