Universitair docent in de politieke filosofie
- Ons doel: ons onderzoek en onderwijs in de politieke en sociale filosofie versterken, met een focus op hedendaagse uitdagingen voor de Europese democratie.
- Uw collega's: Een diverse en internationale groep filosofen die werkzaam zijn op het gebied van politieke filosofie, technologiefilosofie en kunst- en cultuurfilosofie aan de Faculteit der Geesteswetenschappen en Sociale Wetenschappen (FASoS).
Functieomschrijving:
De vakgroep Filosofie van de Universiteit Maastricht is op zoek naar een universitair docent in de politieke en sociale filosofie met een focus op hedendaagse uitdagingen voor de Europese democratie. U bent thuis in de debatten over democratie in Europa, waaronder uitdagingen voor het meerlagige politieke systeem, identiteit en democratisch handelen, de rol van sociale bewegingen als democratische actoren, vertrouwen, tolerantie en polarisatie, en ongelijkheid, solidariteit en fragmentatie. U bent geïnteresseerd in het verbinden van empirische en normatieve benaderingen bij de studie van democratie. De onderwijsfocus van deze functie ligt primair op onze bachelor- en masteropleidingen Europese Studies ( Europese Studies - Kom studeren aan de Universiteit Maastricht! - Universiteit Maastricht ). U heeft een sterke achtergrond in de politieke filosofie of een nauw verwant vakgebied en u bent bereid om les te geven/coördineren in de vakken "Inleiding tot de Filosofie" en "Politieke Filosofie" aan het University College Maastricht.
We zoeken iemand die enthousiast is over het verbinden van normatieve theorie met hedendaagse politieke uitdagingen, die interdisciplinair werkt en bijdraagt aan gezamenlijk onderzoek. Je presenteert je werk regelmatig op internationale conferenties, publiceert in toonaangevende tijdschriften en vraagt externe financiering aan. Je hecht waarde aan teamwork, inclusiviteit en academische integriteit – belangrijke pijlers van onze faculteitscultuur.
Wat je doet
- Het verzorgen van hoogwaardig onderwijs door middel van co-teaching en het coördineren van cursussen; het begeleiden van bachelor- en masterstudenten bij hun scripties en het leiden van studentenonderzoeksprojecten;
- Verricht baanbrekend onderzoek op het gebied van de politieke filosofie, publiceer in toonaangevende tijdschriften, presenteer op conferenties en organiseer onderzoeksactiviteiten binnen de Faculteit der Geesteswetenschappen en Sociale Wetenschappen. De succesvolle kandidaat zal onderzoek uitvoeren binnen het onderzoeksprogramma: Europa: Maatschappij, Politiek en Wereldorde - Onderzoek - Universiteit Maastricht.
- Vraag externe onderzoeksfinanciering aan op nationaal en Europees niveau;
- Werk actief samen met collega's van verschillende afdelingen in interdisciplinaire onderwijs- en onderzoeksactiviteiten.
Wat je meebrengt
- Een doctoraat in de politieke of sociale filosofie of een nauw verwant vakgebied;
- Een groeiend aantal publicaties, passend bij uw carrièrefase, in internationaal erkende tijdschriften;
- Ervaring met het lesgeven aan en begeleiden van studenten op bachelor-niveau, en idealiter ook op master-niveau (MA);
- Uitstekende beheersing van het Engels (C1-niveau) en het vermogen om in het Engels les te geven;
- Een samenwerkingsgerichte mentaliteit en enthousiasme voor interdisciplinair onderwijs en onderzoek;
- Willingness to obtain the Dutch University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) and to acquire Dutch language skills up to B1 level within three years.

- A gross monthly salary between €4.728 and €7.297 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week);

- 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours;

About the Department:
You will be based in the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Members of the philosophy department teach in interdisciplinary BA and MA Programmes across Maastricht University. The main teaching programmes for this position will be the BA European Studies, the MA European Studies and the philosophy courses at the University College Maastricht.
Research in the Department of Philosophy has three main foci:
- Philosophy of Technology, particularly the ethics and politics of new and emerging technologies, and the history of the philosophy of technology.
- Political Philosophy, including political realism, democratic theories, environmental politics, gender, and critical theory.
- Philosophy of Art and Culture, with a focus on artistic research, aesthetics and the philosophy of music, theories of culture and cultural change, and critical theory.
