The Faculty of Arts invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Post-doctoral Fellow in Philosophy (Ref.: 534000), to commence in August 2026. The initial appointment will be for two years, with the potential for extension for an additional year. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. degree in philosophy by the time of appointment. The position is open to all areas of specialization within value theory very broadly construed (to include ethics, political philosophy, social philosophy, aesthetics, and other cognate areas). This appointment will be affiliated with the Hong Kong Ethics Lab: https://www.hkethicslab.com. The post-doctoral fellow is expected to participate actively in the work of the Hong Kong Ethics Lab. Applicants should submit project proposals (max 5 pages) that fall within the research centre’s broad remit to drive academic research and public engagement on pressing issues of ethical concern. Information about HKU's Philosophy department can be found at https://philosophy.hku.hk/dept. Enquiries about the duties of the post can be directed to Nathaniel Sharadin ([email protected]). A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave, medical benefits and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries. Post-doctoral fellows will have access to a generous research budget intended to support their ongoing professional development. The University only accepts online applications for the above post. Applicants should apply online at the University’s careers site (https://jobs.hku.hk) and upload an up-to-date C.V., a writing sample of scholarly work, and a project proposal on ethics or moral philosophy, broadly construed (not exceeding five pages). Shortlisted applicants will be requested to arrange for two references. Review of applications will start as soon as possible and continue until February 28, 2026, or until the position is filled, whichever is earlier. The University is committed to diversity and inclusivity. The Faculty of Arts expressly encourages qualified persons from all genders to apply. |
