Visting Assistant Teaching Professor

The Department of Philosophy at Villanova University seeks to appoint a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of Philosophy for AY 2026-27. Teaching load: 4-4.

Applicants must be prepared to teach the Department’s contribution to the University Core Curriculum, Philosophy 1000: Knowledge, Reality, and Self. The course catalog description is as follows: “Philosophical responses to the questions of how we can know, what is real, and what is the nature of human existence that explore the dialogue between Catholic, Christian, secular and skeptical perspectives on these questions.” Department guidelines require that the course materials include substantial exposure to ancient Greek philosophy, classic sources from late antique or medieval Christian philosophy as well as challenges to that tradition, and work by women, people of color, and others under-represented in the canon.

There may also be opportunities to teach Philosophy 2115: Ethics for Healthcare Professionals. The catalog course description is as follows: “Rights and duties of the patient/client and the members of the health care team, death and dying, genetic engineering and manipulation.”
