Job description

The Department of Philosophy and Religion at Western Kentucky University invites applications for a one-year sabbatical replacement position in philosophy as an Instructor. AOS: Open. AOC: Early Modern Philosophy, Ethics. Duties to begin August 15, 2014.

The faculty member will teach 24 semester hours in philosophy courses during the 2014-15 academic year. Teaching assignments will include both introductory level courses (serving both majors/minors as well as General Education students) and advanced courses that meet major/minor requirements. The faculty member also will engage in scholarly and research activities and assist in conducting the work of the department.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate, introductory-level courses as well as upper-level courses for majors and minors. The teaching load is four courses (2-3 preparations) in the fall semester and four courses (2-3 preparations) in the spring semester. Candidates will be expected to provide some service to the department for the year, and will receive departmental support for research and be eligible for College support.

Candidate must at least be ABD. Candidates must demonstrate scholarly potential and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. Western Kentucky University is a dynamic comprehensive university committed to the promotion of stewardship and student engagement.

In the case of recent PhDs or ABDs, one of the recommenders should be the candidate’s dissertation advisor.  Evidence of teaching experience and effectiveness is required.
