At the Institute of Philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy, Heidelberg University, the following full-time position (100%) is to be filled as of April 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter:

Assistant professor/lecturer (f/m/d)

Logic and Other Areas of Theoretical Philosophy


The initial appointment is limited to three years and may be extended for a further three years or, subject to further committee decisions, converted into a permanent position.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Developing a new logic curriculum: logic for philosophy students (in collaboration with the institute)
  • Teaching courses in logic other formal methods, in particular formal epistemology and decision theory
  • Teaching in other areas of theoretical philosophy
  • Teaching load is governed by the LVVO (Teaching Load Ordinance) in its currently applicable version. and typically amounts to 4–6 hours of classes per week during term time in its currently applicable version
  • Conducting research in logic or formal epistemology, as well as in at least one additional area of theoretical philosophy (e. g. philosophy of language, epistemology more generally, philosophy of mind)
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary and international collaboration and to participate in joint projects in line with strategic goals of the Institute of Philosophy
  • Participating in administration and organization

Your Profile:

  • A very good doctoral degree (PhD) in philosophy
  • Broad expertise in theoretical philosophy
  • Documented teaching experience, especially in logic and other formal methods (international teaching experience is an advantage)
  • A strong research profile, demonstrated by publications, with a clearly identifiable research focus in logic or formal epistemology, as well as in at least one additional area of theoretical philosophy (e.g. philosophy of language, epistemology more generally, philosophy of mind)
  • Ability to teach in both German and English is highly desirable
  • Fulfilment of the personal requirements under the civil service and budgetary regulations of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
  • Ability to work independently, strong team skills, goal-oriented working style, and academic commitment
