Assistant Professor of Practice; Director, Philosophy in the Public Interest (EXPIRED)

The Department of Philosophy at Northern Arizona University is currently conducting a search for an Assistant Professor of Practice (non-tenured) to serve as the Director of the Philosophy in the Public Interest program. This is a full-time position, renewable on a year-to-year basis contingent upon effective performance, department needs, and continued funding. The person filling this position will have primary administrative duties for the College of Arts & Letters' Philosophy in the Public Interest program, and teaching responsibilities of one course per term in the Department of Philosophy.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Philosophy in hand by start of contract; minimum 1 year full-time administrative experience managing humanities activities for a broad audience, including the non-academic community; minimum 1 year teaching experience in philosophy with primary responsibility for course design, instruction and student assessment.

Preferred Qualifications: demonstrated excellence in leadership in community outreach as well as excellence in teaching in philosophy at the undergraduate level. In addition to introductory level courses in philosophy, the department has needs for instructional excellence in ethics and applied ethics (including health care ethics, environmental ethics). Also preferred are candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students, faculty and staff.
