Job description

Ashford University is looking for faculty to teach undergraduate philosophy courses, in particular sections of Informal Logic and Ethics & Moral Reasoning.  As an online institution, candidates with online experience and/or experience teaching philosophy are preferred.  But candidates who have demonstrated experience and expertise in any other sub-discipline of philosophy will be considered.

Courses required to instruct:

  • PHI103 Informal Logic
  • PHI208 Ethics & Moral Reasoning

Essential Job Duties:

  • Posting faculty guidance and expectations
  • Participating in classroom discussion boards
  • Grading assignments and responding to student inquiries
  • Providing timely feedback to students' questions and concerns
  • Place a strong emphasis on student-centered learning
  • Collaborates with other University departments to ensure a positive overall experience for all University students

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must reside and be eligible to work in the United States
  • Proficiency in common internet tools, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Interest and commitment to teaching in an online environment
  • Work related experience in the area of your Master's Degree

Preferred Qualification:

  • College level teaching experience in philosophy in both online and on-ground modalities
  • Doctorate degree in related field
  • Experience teaching a multitude of philosophy courses
  • Experience teaching critical thinking, logic and symbolic logic
  • Experience teaching in "non-traditional" settings to students
  • Willingness to aid students in general writing skills as well as in relation to philosophical content

Education:

  • Hold a minimum of a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the area of Philosophy.  Ph.D. preferred
