Job description

The department of Philosophy is seeking a senior faculty member expected to serve at the rank of full professor and as Department Chair. AOS/AOC: Open. The successful candidate is expected to participate fully in the life of the Department, College, and University including teaching, committee work, obtaining grants, publishing in refereed professional journals, and contributing generally to the intellectually vibrant environment of the Department. 

The new hire will also be expected to perform all the required duties as Chair of the Department. The Chair's duties include the management and supervision of administrative tasks, scheduling courses, personnel management, advising students, mentoring junior faculty, and providing leadership that continues a tradition of high quality research and teaching at CUNY. 

Lehman College is the only senior college within the City University of New York system in the Bronx, proudly serving the educational needs of the people of New York City. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to teach and mentor graduate students at CUNY's Graduate Center in Manhattan.

QUALIFICATIONS

Earned Ph.D. degree in Philosophy. The candidate must have excellent academic and professional references, considerable supervisory and administrative experience, a record of considerable external research, evidence of excellence in teaching, effective oral and written communicative skills, and a record of proven academic leadership skills. The successful candidate will have an established record of nationally and internationally recognized scholarship and will have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching that merits appointment as Professor.
