PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN PHILOSOPHY

Full Time, Ongoing Appointment

The School of Humanities and Communication Arts brings together scholars with interdisciplinary research interests in the following fields: advertising, anthropology, Asian studies, cultural studies, graphic design, history, international relations, journalism, linguistics and modern languages, literature and literary studies, media and visual studies, media production, music recording and performance, music therapy, philosophy, photography, political and social theory, religious studies, and web design. Their research intersects with the focal areas of a range of University Research Institutes and Centres: the Institute for Culture and Society, the MARCS Institute, the Religion and Society Research Centre, and the Writing and Society Research Centre.

The School is currently seeking a scholar with outstanding teaching and research strengths to be appointed to the position Professor or Associate Professor in Philosophy.  Philosophy at UWS comprises the Philosophy Major and the Philosophy@UWS Research Initiative. The Philosophy Major was established in 2013 and already has a strong undergraduate and postgraduate student body, and an active teaching group. As a new program, the Philosophy Major is still open to exciting developments. Philosophy@UWS (www.uws.edu.au/philosophy) understands philosophy in an inclusive way, bringing into contact traditional philosophical questions with neighbouring disciplines such as political theory, literature and the visual arts.

This is a research leadership position and the successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership for the Philosophy@UWS Research Initiative, contribute to the internationalization of Philosophy@UWS, and to make a significant contribution in planning for external funding applications. The successful applicant will also take a leading role in planning the various research projects organized by Philosophy@UWS and also in generating new projects. The position includes planning for attracting graduate students and creating the conditions for successful completion of PhDs.

The applicant will already have an international research profile as evidenced by high quality publications and a vision to further extend their research in the future. The successful applicant is expected be active in one or more of the key research areas of the Philosophy Research Initiative. These include:

–  Modern and contemporary European philosophy

–  Political theory

–  Aesthetics

This is a full time, ongoing position based at our Bankstown campus. The School operates in a multi-campus environment and the successful applicant is expected to teach on all campuses on which the School operates in face-to-face teaching delivery and/or through blended learning technologies.

The University will appoint at Academic Level D (Associate Professor) or Academic Level E (Professor) depending upon the skills, qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.

Remuneration Package:

Academic Level D (Associate Professor) $152,414 to $167,403 p.a. (comprising Salary $129,143 to $141,954 p.a., plus 17% Superannuation, plus Leave Loading) or

Academic Level E (Professor) $194,891 p.a. (comprising Salary $165,448 p.a., plus 17% Superannuation, plus Leave Loading)
