Job description: The Department of Philosophy at the University of Puget Sound announces a position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Area of Specialization (AOS) and the Area of Competence (AOC) for the position are both open. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the study of philosophy in the context of a liberal arts curriculum that recognizes the role the discipline plays in interdisciplinary study in the liberal arts and sciences. This position calls for offering courses in the philosophy major (including a course in Ancient Philosophy that is a requirement in the major) and participation in one or more of the university’s Core or interdisciplinary programs, including: the Humanities Program, African American Studies, Gender Studies, Latina/o Studies, Asian Studies, and the Environmental Policy and Decision Making Program. Preference may be given to candidates able to teach courses in Aesthetics (including Philosophy of Film) or Political Philosophy (including Philosophy of Gender, Philosophy of Race, Environmental Ethics, or Global Justice).

The principal qualifications for a candidate are a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education as well as a promising research program. Ph.D. in philosophy must be completed by the time of appointment.
