Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Mount St. Mary’s University seeks an outstanding teacher-scholar for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) beginning August 2015. The Department seeks candidates with a teaching and research specialization in Ethics (normative and applied) or Ancient Philosophy. Candidates must be well versed in the history of philosophy and qualified to teach a two-semester, historically structured introduction to philosophy and an ethics course, both part of the Veritas Program, the university’s common liberal arts curriculum, as well as the freshman liberal arts Veritas Symposium. Candidates will also have the opportunity to teach in the master’s program in philosophical studies and in the philosophy curriculum of the university’s seminary program. Seven undergraduate courses per year (2-3 preparations per semester), possible supervision of qualifying papers required of students in the master’s program, and the usual non-teaching duties. Ph.D. strongly preferred; exceptional ABD considered. Candidates with the ecclesiastical licentiate in philosophy are especially encouraged to apply.  Successful candidates will share our commitment to the dignity and solidarity of all persons and the value of intercultural understanding.  All candidates are encouraged to consult the Philosophy department’s web page.
