Job description

POSITION:
A probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor is anticipated in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department seeks a dynamic candidate with expertise in Early Modern Philosophy who is committed to teaching excellence and to maintaining an active program involving undergraduates. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2015/2016 academic year, August 24, 2015.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Doctorate in the area of Philosophy preferred. (ABD applicants may be considered but must complete all requirements for the terminal degree by March 20, 2016.)  Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship. Additionally, we seek candidates who value liberal education and want to join us as we develop and implement an innovative outcomes-based Liberal Education core program in fall 2016.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
AOS: Early Modern Philosophy
AOC: Metaphysics and Symbolic Logic
The ability to teach any of the following will be considered an asset: Non-Western Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, Philosophy of Science and a variety of applied ethics courses. The ability to enhance the diversity of the department and to expand its offerings will also be considered assets. Evidence of successful university teaching and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.

DUTIES:
Teach courses in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies based on program needs and in accordance with specialization; participate in research and scholarly activities; develop and/or maintain a scholarly research agenda; provide academic advising to students as assigned; engage in service to the department, University and profession.

DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies offers majors and minors in both Philosophy and Religious Studies. Many of our courses serve as electives for other programs as well as for the university Liberal Education core.
