Job description

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Portland invites applications for a tenure-track position, beginning Fall 2015, at the rank of Assistant Professor. AOS: Ethics. (Though candidates from all subfields of ethics are welcome to apply, we have a strong preference for those with a demonstrated interest and expertise in applied ethics.) Preferred AOC: Analytic Metaphysics and Epistemology. Those conversant with the Catholic philosophical tradition are especially encouraged to apply. The teaching load is typically three courses per semester in conjunction with expectations for service and scholarship.  A Ph.D. in philosophy is expected by the time of appointment.

The department prizes excellence in teaching and scholarship.  We regard collegiality, our breadth in content areas, and diversity in philosophical style and perspective to be crucial, both for the education of our students and for our continued development as scholars.  We also recognize more broadly the benefits of a commitment to diversity and inclusion.  In light of this, we enthusiastically welcome applications from candidates who have experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds.

Founded in 1901, the University of Portland is a private, comprehensive, Catholic university of 3900 students with a mission of Teaching, Faith, and Service. We are an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER striving to employ personnel at all levels who will support and enhance our educational mission and purpose.  Please visit our website at www.up.edu for more information about the University.
