POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR,  PHILOSOPHY, DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY AND RELIGION

 APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY

Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2015. Area of Specialization (AOS); Social and Political Philosophy or Ethics. Areas of Competencies (AOC): Must have demonstrated competence in Environmental Ethics; in addition, competence in medical ethics, philosophy of law, or aesthetics is desirable. Effective teaching experience is a plus. A PhD. in philosophy is required prior to the July 1, 2015 start date. Teaching load is officially 4/4, and is reduced to 3/3 with a ¼ time release for active research. The position comes with the full package of benefits offered by the State of North Carolina.

The Department of Philosophy and Religion at Appalachian State University offers two degree programs; a B.A. in each of Philosophy and Religious Studies. Appalachian State University is a member of The University of North Carolina sixteen-member Institutions. Located in Boone, North Carolina, the University has enrollments of approximately 18,000 students, offering primarily, bachelors and masters programs in the applied fields, liberal arts, science and business. Although, primarily a residential campus, the University offers a variety of distance education classes at satellite campuses and online course offerings.
