Job description

AOS Asian or Islamic/Arabic philosophy AOC Open. The typical teaching load is six
undergraduate courses per academic year (three per semester), including introductory, general education, and upper level offerings. Some summer teaching may be available. The Philosophy Department currently has eighteen tenure-line faculty and four lecturers and offers strong major and minor programs. We are a pluralistic department, open to many philosophical traditions.

Required qualifications
Ph.D. dissertation must be in Asian or Islamic/Arabic philosophy. We require successful
completion of all coursework required for Ph.D. in Philosophy, or in a related field if the
candidate has successfully completed at least 30 graduate credit hours in philosophy.
We also require promise for excellence in teaching.


Preferred qualifications
We strongly prefer the Ph.D. in hand. Ph.D. in philosophy is preferred. We prefer candidates who have successfully taught courses in Asian or Islamic/Arabic philosophy. We prefer candidates with demonstrated success in teaching and advising students from diverse backgrounds. We prefer demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in and beyond the department. We also prefer candidates with the demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary context, including collaborating with other relevant departments and/or programs.


The University of Dayton, with a College of Arts and Sciences and professional schools of
Business Administration, Education and Health Sciences, Engineering, and Law has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 8,000 undergraduate students. All undergraduate students take twelve hours of philosophy and religious studies. Interviews will be conducted at the APA Eastern Division meetings. Application deadline is November 17, 2014.
