Job description

The Department of Classics at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for the A. W. Mellon Professorship in Classics; the appointment will begin on September 1, 2015 (pending budgetary approval). The Mellon Professorship is a tenured position at the rank of Full Professor and is open to individuals who are at the rank of tenured associate or full professor. The Department seeks candidates with a specialization in Ancient Philosophy or Ancient Science, who have a distinguished record of publication, proven excellence as a teacher, and experience in, as well as enthusiasm for, teaching the full range of courses offered in a Classics Department, including Greek and Latin at all levels and courses in translation. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in the Graduate Program (currently under revision) in Classics, Philosophy and Ancient Science, and to contribute to the development and improvement of the undergraduate program in Classics.
