Job description |
Applications are sought for the first Batten Endowed Chair in Jewish Studies. The successful candidate will be appointed as a Full Professor. Will be responsible for teaching introductory World Religions, as well as upper- and graduate-level Religious Studies courses. Will continue an active research agenda in religious studies, concentrating in Jewish traditions. Will also develop a graduate certificate in interfaith studies, work closely with ODU’s Institute for Jewish Studies and Interfaith Understanding (IJIU), serving as a public intellectual within the local community and eventually assuming directorship of the IJIU. A PhD in Philosophy or PhD or ThD in Religious Studies, Jewish Studies, or Theology is required. Compelling evidence of scholarly activity commensurate with appointment as a full professor and of teaching effectiveness required. Preference will be given to candidates whose research demonstrates engagement with contemporary Jewish Thought or religion in the public sphere. Preference will also be given to candidates whose teaching interests complement existing strengths within the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.
