Assistant Professor (EXPIRED)

The Philosophy Department at the University of Alaska Anchorage invites applications for a full time (3/3 teaching load), 9 months, tripartite, tenure track faculty appointment at the assistant professor rank, beginning August 2015. We seek a promising scholar who is committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. The Philosophy Department has approximately 50 majors and offers both a minor and a major. Philosophy majors choose between concentrations in applied ethics, law, religious studies, and traditional philosophical topics. The Philosophy Department has an important mission in community outreach and partners with other programs at UAA to provide instruction and academic support. The Department administers the UAA Ethics Center and has on-going collaborations with colleagues in computer science, biology, WWAMI, psychology, geography, and UAA Confucius Institute, for example.

The Department seeks a candidate dedicated to equity and diversity in the campus community and to promoting an environment that increases student knowledge about local, national, and global communities. Ph.D. is required by June 1, 2015 AOS (required): Epistemology, Philosophy of Science or Philosophy of Mind. AOC (at least two of the following are required): Philosophy of Mind, Epistemology, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Science. Evidence of excellence in college level teaching.
